Reel Wisconsin
New direction for Screenwriters Forum
Forum Script contest is underway

Ken Miyamoto leads the Wisconsin Screenwriters Forum

The Wisconsin Screenwriters Forum (WSF) in Madison kicks off a new season with new president Ken Miyamoto, a former Sony Pictures script reader/story analyst and paid screenwriter.

Based on his experience, Miyamoto knows that Hollywood needs new talent but doesn’t always know where to look. He’s setting out to break down barriers in the film industry with the necessary assist.

“I’ve read hundreds of scripts during my days in development at Sony, and currently as a reader/judge for Creative Screenwriting Magazine’s international screenwriting contests,” Miyamoto said.

“And from that experience, I’ve learned that there are talented writers from all over the world, not just in Hollywood.”

Non-profit WSF has 110 members located throughout the U.S. and beyond. Formed in 1982, it pioneered one of the first national screenwriting competitions.

The WSF goal, under Miyamoto’s direction, plans to help hone the writer’s skills through education, training, networking, mentorship and overall unity “with one goal in mind -- to see our dreams come true in a theatre near you,” he said.

A $50 membership in the Wisconsin Screenwriters Forum also provides access to the Wisconsin Screenwriting Experience competition now underway.

Deadline is Oct. 15 for feature-length submissions.

The grand prize is $1,000, a listing in Inktip, and one year subscription to Creative Screenwriting Magazine. See www.wiscreenwritersforum.org. —Lora Hyler
