17 Non-broadcasting entries vie for 2011 Emmy Awards

Come November’s 2011 Emmy Awards ceremonies, a very large number of broadcasting persons and entities among scores of contenders, will take home a coveted Emmy statuette as winners in 27 Outstanding Achievement categories.

Of those 27 categories, 15 will honor achievements in programming, commercials and crafts produced by 17 local and regional production companies other than broadcasters, as shown below.

Of these, Zacuto Films leads with four nominations. Best known as a rental house, Zacuto Films won a place in the Documentary Programs/Topical category –- where it’s up against Media Process Group’s “The Story of Father Pfleger” – and  Informational/Instructional Programming and Craft Achievement: Editing categories.

Jerry Bryant TV, Inc., PUNCH Films, Grannies on Safari, Inc. and TLN are up for two awards each.  John Cuneo and Derek Devine’s PUNCH Films has the distinction of competing against itself in the PSAs category, for its “Texting While Driving” campaign.

Other Chicago and regional non-broadcasting entries are Richter Studios, Grannies on Safari, Inc., Jeff Sciortino Photography, TLN, Green River Films, Key to the City Productions, Kenmore Live Studio Productions, Orbark Productions, Edelman Public Relations and Team World Vision, Chicago; Discover Mediaworks, Madison, Big Idea Company, Mishawaka and Explore Media, Elkhart.

The Emmy Awards will be presented Sunday, Nov. 6 at the Alhambra Palace, 1240 W. Randolph, starting at 4:30 p.m. registration and cocktails.
