Blue Island filmmakers win top New Media fest prize

Sara and Kevin Brown of “my B.I.”

Passionate about all the good they saw in south suburban Blue Island, resident filmmakers Sara and Kevin Brown created a webseries, “my B.I,” about all the things that make Blue Island special.

Judges at the recent Savannah, Ga. International Big River Film Festival thought it special, too and deemed the first episode of “my B.I.” winner of the New Media Web Series category.

The episode, “It Comes Around Again,” explores Blue Island’s important role in pre-prohibition area brewing and offers an inside look at Blue Island’s first new brewing operation in nearly a century.

Creator Kevin Brown says, “To win as the smallest production crew and budget among our competition … we still can’t believe it and are extremely grateful for the recognition.”

The series chronicles the history, ongoing development and future of Blue Island via the people, sights, sounds and stories that make the suburb so special.

“my B.I.” was among more than 300 festival entries.
