The opioid epidemic is a huge problem in the US, which is what led Detroit-based Doner’s Cleveland and Cuyahoga County, Ohio to create a stunning and smart new PSA campaign featuring a serious prevention message.

Titled “Know the Risks,” the multiplatform campaign is designed to show the effects opioid abuse has on families.

The effort is part of a larger year-long campaign created to flip the narrative of anti-drug campaigns.

Here are two of the print ads which are stoppers:

McPherrin promoted to 5 and 9 PM anchor

Kudos to Corey McPherrin, host of WFLD-Channel 32’s “Good Day Chicago” morning show. He will move up to anchor the 5 and 9 p.m. weekday newscasts, the Fox-owned station announced Wednesday.

Corey McPherrinMcPherrin, who is a suburban Chicago native and 22-year veteran of Fox 32, will succeed Jeff Herndon alongside co-anchor Dawn Hasbrouck. Herndon resigned after four years to return home to Kansas. His last day at the station was Tuesday.

According to Robert Feder’s blog, McPherrin’s promotion could help Fox 32 narrow the gap with Tribune Broadcasting competitor WGN-Channel 9. The longtime rival is about to lose main news anchor Mark Suppelsa, who plans to retire in December, while WGN faces an uncertain future with Sinclair Broadcast Group poised to acquire owner Tribune Media.

At the moment, Nielsen ratings show WGN leading the late-news ratings at 9 p.m. with a 3.8 rating (131,595 households) and 7.0 audience share, compared with Fox 32’s 2.5 rating (86,575 households) and 4.5 share. Among adults between 25 and 54 — the demographic most closely tied to advertising revenue — the margin is much closer, with WGN only 0.5 rating points ahead of Fox 32, according to August averages.

Facebook launches Watch

Facebook’s latest push to compete with YouTube, Netflix, Hulu and Amazon is now live. According to TechCrunch, the new Watch tab appeared for U.S. users. It currently sits in some premium Facebook real estate, just under the News Feed and Messenger buttons.

The lineup includes a feel-good reality series from Mike Rowe, in which he road-trips across the country to shine a light on local heroes; Tastemade’s “Kitchen Little,” featuring kids relaying recipe steps to pro chefs trying to complete the dish; A&E’s couples-prank show “Bae or Bail”; a docu-series based on the Humans of New York photo blog; free weekly Major League Baseball broadcasts; and a show starring a premature baby hippo at the Cincinnati Zoo.

That’s just a smattering of the series on Facebook already — and since it went up on Facebook Aug. 28, the first episode of “Returning the Favor” has garnered 2.5 million views, even before the broad U.S. launch of Watch. Facebook is accepting proposals for other shows to be added to the queue, at this link.
