Englewood Film Fest Oct. 23-26 showcases 6 local works

The dramatic feature “Englewood: The Growing Pains in Chicago,” the powerful directorial debut of William L. Cochran, fittingly opens the 4th annual Englewood International Film Festival, Oct. 23-26 at the Chatham 14 Theatre.

Hosted by founders filmmaker Mark Harris (“Black Coffee”) and songwriter Alisa Inez, the program offers six features and four shorts, along with panels, workshops and networking and an Oct. 24 Career Day.

Local entries are the romcom feature “Sex Ain’t Love” from Will Adams of Take 1 Productions; shorts award-winning anti-violence “The Painter,”  by DeAnna and Kevin Cooper’s Wheaton-based Amarok Productions and “EXO” by entertainment producer Christopher Adams of Impakt Studio Chicago

The complete webisode series, “The Falls,” from The Anointed Harvesters NFP, headed by Shabeta Carter (Of Boys and Men) is also showcasing.

Filmmaker Christopher Nolen (“The Four Seasons,” “The Good Life”) heads the “Acting Up” panel on Friday night at the KuSanya Café.  Saturday workshops will cover cinematography, movies and music, makeup and health.

New this year is EIFF Career Day, Friday, Oct. 24.  “Film professionals have volunteered to visit as any classes as possible at Englewood grammar and high school speaking about their on and off camera careers,” says Harris.

“They will encourage youth to see possibilities for their lives and the importance of education.”

Tickets range from individual movies, $8 to $40 for a full page and may be purchased here.
