Filmworkers reps colorist Leffel for Midwest work

Craig Leffel

Veteran colorist Craig Leffel signed with Filmworkers for representation of color correction projects in the Midwest, in addition to heading Big Spoon Industries, which he formed last fall.

Leffel complements Filmworkers’ color correction staff of senior colorists Michael Mazur and Fred Keller, and colorists Matt Harger and Jeff Altman, who recently located to Chicago from New York.

“Craig is a longtime friend and a pillar of the Chicago advertising community,” says Filmworkers president Reid Brody, noting that Leffel has been practicing the craft of color correction in Chicago for more than 20 years.

Leffel has worked with all of the city’s top advertising agencies for accounts including Coors Lite, American Family Insurance, Kraft, Coca-Cola, the Illinois Board of Tourism, Chicago Blackhawks and many others.

Prior to starting his own company, Leffel last fall departed Optimus where he’d been a partner for 18 years, a colorist for 15 years and three years as director of production of ONE at Optimus.

Big Spoon Industries is a collective of directors, artists and designers focused on producing work directly for brands, digital agencies, marketing firms and others.

Being repped by Filmworkers “is a perfect alliance and a great opportunity,” says Leffel. “I’ve had a long relationship with Reid, and we share a similar respect for color correction.”

“Color correction, for me, is a very iterative process,” he continues. “It’s about interpreting the thinking of the creative team and interpreting what was captured on the set, and turning it into something people want to see on screen.

“In the best scenario, it goes beyond what anyone hoped or imagined.”
