Free DePaul Screenwriting Conference with top writers

The Midwest’s premiere screening event — DePaul School of Cinematic Arts’ annual Courier 12 Screenwriting Conference — Oct. 8 at its Loop campus, is an afternoon of panel discussions with the entertainment industry’s writers and producers, free and open to all.

Project Development kicks off the panels at 1 p.m., discussed by Brian Banks, Nickelodeon’s VP / executive in charge of production at Nickelodeon and Samantha Olsson Shear, head film and television development at Kickstart Productions. DePaul faculty member and screenwriter Chris Parrish will moderate.

Strategies for Emerging Writers, 2:30 p.m., with speakers DePaul professor Anna Maria Hozian; screenwriter Stephany Folsom (“Thor: Ragnarok” in production); script coordinator Zach Cannon (“Mistresses”) and literary manager Marc Manus of Zero Gravity Management.

Writing for Diversity in Hollywood, 4 p.m. will be discussed by “Friday Night Lights” writer / producer / director Aaron Rahsaan Thomas; “Law and Order: SVU” writer and DePaul professor Brad Riddell.

Screenwriting for Blockbuster Hollywood Films, 5:30 p.m. features writers Jack Epps, Jr. (“Top Gun” and “Legal Eagles”) and USC School of Cinematic Arts writing chair, producer Steven E. de Souza (“Die Hard,” “Commando”), screenwriter Kam Miller and Scott Myers, DePaul faculty member and Blacklist blogger.
