“Chicago Fire” creators Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, who created the franchise, have signed a deal with Universal TV, the studio producing the multi Chicago-set series.
Under the pact they will continue to be executive producers of “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago PD” and “Chicago Med” and also on the “Chicago Justice,” the backdoor pilot that airs as episode 21 of “Chicago PD’s” third season airing in May.
These shows have been renewed for the 2016-2017 season, and Dick Wolf’s overall deal with Universal TV, runs through 2020, which suggests the shows might continue to film here for the next four years. “Chicago Fire” enters its fifth season in the fall.
In the meantime, “Chicago Fire, PD and Med” will end their respective seasons with a wrap party Friday, with 1,600 guests, at the Shedd Aquarium.
Crews will reassemble in early July and the new seasons will resume filming at the end of July.
The fate of Fox’ pilots filming here — “The Exorcist,” “ABP” and “Zoobiquity” — will be known around May 15. Should Fox TV greenlight all three as new series and settle in at Cinespace, Chicago would be host to a record eight TV series: Four each from NBC and Fox TV.
