Havas hires Anderson as creative director of design

Havas design director Chuck Anderson

Chicago–based artist, designer, photographer and NoPattern Studio founder Chuck Anderson has joined Havas Worldwide in the new position of creative director of design.

He will be responsible for setting the agency’s design vision, infusing a sense of craft into client work, and mentoring young design talent, the agency said.

“I’ve been fiercely independent for 11 years doing my own thing, but feel ready to take the leap into a team role,” Anderson said. “My approach to creativity has always been about adding excitement in new places. I feel that same sense of creative energy at Havas.

“It’s like the stars have aligned and I’m really excited to collaborate with the teams and mentor young designers who are just learning the ropes.”

Since joining Havas last month, he has promoted the agency’s lifestyle to his more than 20,000 Twitter followers.

Anderson founded NoPattern in 2003 when he was 18 and despite the lack of formal training, and deciding not to attend college he has self-trained and worked on design projects for clients such as ESPN, Complex, Nike, Abolut, McDonald’s, Google, Mountain Dew, Microsoft and many others.

Computer Arts Magazine named him a Design Icon in 2010 and he has been a guest speaker at dozens of schools and design conferences around the world.
