Indie filmmakers: Apply now for Stage 18 work space

Calling all independent filmmakers!  Starting today, Nov. 10, you may apply online for shared work space in upcoming Stage 18 Chicago, the area’s first media and entertainment incubator at Cinespace Studios.

While the actual physical space won’t be completed until early spring, receiving applications ahead of time help determine the amount and type of space needed, “so we can adapt the new space to our members’ needs,” says Angie Gaffney of Black Apple Media, who cofounded the incubator concept with Cinespace president Alex Pissios and officially launched it last June.

“And by the time the space is ready, the filmmakers will be prepared to move in and be part of the community,” she adds.

When completed, Stage 18 will occupy 15,000-sq. ft. in Cinespace’s current Maintenance Building at 2601 W. 16th St.

Currently, Stage 18 houses eight different media groups in its temporary space. Anyone, from an established producer to a recent college grad, is welcome to apply for workspace in Stage 18.

When completed, Gaffney expects “it will accommodate least a couple of hundred filmmakers and we want it to be lively at all times.”

Although filmmakers won’t be moving in, nor will membership fees kick in until the new space is open, applicants prior to Jan. 31 will be automatically eligible for the Founding Membership Program.

Founding Members will receive additional discounts, preferred office selection, and have access to exclusive networking events. Also, $100 will be shaved off their monthly membership fee for the first nine months.

Membership levels and pricing: General Access: $225 per month. Founding Member Discount: $125/month. Dedicated Desk: $450 per month $350/month. Small Private Office: $750 per month $650/month and Large Private Office, $1,000 per month $900/month.

Through Stage 18, “We can be the new Hollywood. There is no reason to leave Chicago for film and media opportunities elsewhere if we can aggregate the creators already here into one community,” says Nicole Murray, Stage 18 board member and communications director.
