Magnanimous’ new Studio One stage ideal for indies

Studio One ideal for green screen

When Magnanimous Media HD video camera rentals moved from a small Bridgeport storefront to a large East Pilsen space last September, the company downsized its former 1,000-sq. ft. rental stage to a more in-demand 750-sq. ft. space.

The previous space,” owner/president Craig Maltby said at the time of the move, “was too big for what it was used for: smaller shoots, such as music videos and instructional videos.”

Studio One officially opened for business on March 1 in part of Maganimous’ 6,500-sq. ft. first floor space at 600 W Cermak Rd. It is conveniently available from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., seven days a week and priced for the cost-conscious at $20 an hour or $240 for a 12-hour day.

The space measures 15x38x14-ft. with a 12-ft. clearance to the grid and four 20 amp circuits for lighting.  Magnanimous’ full array of equipment – cameras, lighting, grip and electric, and even a fog machine – may be rented for shoots there.

The space offers backdrops in chroma green and chroma blue black and white, and says co-owner/president Craig Maltby, “has mostly been used for green screen and music videos.”

Maltby and co-founders VP/business Sean Patrick and in-house DP Jonah Rubush started the business in Maltby’s apartment in 2009.

In 2010 they set up shop in an 800 sq. ft. storefront in Bridgeport.

They began looking for expanded space in spring 2013. Patrick supervised space construction that was finished last September.

Magnanimous employs 17 and has an estimated equipment inventory of $500,000.
