Toben Seymour and Meghann Artes

Puppet master and stop-motion specialist join Tessa Films’ roster

Meghann Artes and Toben Seymour have joined the directorial roster at Tessa Films. The duo arrives at Tessa Films with skillsets that are bound to overlap in both conventional and unconventional ways. Artes is a master of stop motion. Seymour is a master of puppetry.

In the words of Executive Producer and Co-Founder of Tessa Films, Lisa Masseur, “[Toben has] a very distinctive creative vision, and is a wizard when it comes to achieving in-camera effects. And Meghann is an original storyteller who’s found innovative new ways to use the stop-motion technique. Both are wonderful creative resources for agencies and clients.”

Masseur already worked with Artes via One at Optimus and at Radar Studios. Prior to Artes’s new role at Tessa Films, she was represented by You are Here. Artes’s resume also includes collaborations with CTW, DreamWorks, Nickelodeon, Bix Pix, NBC, and ABC.

Artes received an Emmy and a Peabody Award for her work on CTW’s “Sesame Street,” and her own films have been honored by both Vimeo and Short of the Week.

Seymour designs and builds all of his own puppets and then incorporates them into his work. Some of his most-notable clients have included Mercedes-Benz, Eyeglass World, and The Jim Henson Company.

Seymour also has experience within the music industry. Norah Jones, will.i.am, Moby, and Aesop Rock all have music videos that feature Seymour’s puppetry.

Chicago and Los Angeles-based Tessa Films is a film-production company that was founded in 2017 by Partners and EPs Lisa Masseur and Reid Brody. It immediately made waves, and along with the addition of Artes and Seymour, it already boasts an impressive team of directors.
