Leo Burnett’s #LikeAGirl killer video is #1 AICP Show winner

Some 2,000 members of the advertising and production industries attended last night’s AICP Show: The Art & Technique of the American Commercial, held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York for the 24th year.

The AICP Show honored some 120 companies and individuals who won a total of 45 awards in 15 categories (each category having up to three winners).  New York-based agencies dominated, not unexpectedly, as did production companies and editorial houses with bicoastal/London addresses.

But the AICP Show’s big winner was Leo Burnett, the Godzilla of advertising competitions.  Its #LikeAGirl web video was crowned Best of Show: Advertising Excellence/Single Commercial.

The honor was shared by deserving creatives in Leo Burnett’s Toronto, Chicago and London/Holler offices.  Burnett was the only Chicago agency  and Cutters Kathryn Hempel the only Chicago supplier on the winners’ list.

The night before, Leo Burnett Chicago had taken the best of Show in AICP Next Awards – the “Most Next” honor for “Social Savvy Burglar” for Allstate.  Along with the trophy came an AICP Foundation grant of $5,000 to be used for an arts-based youth development programs.

New York agencies and West Coast production companies dominated the 45 winning categories.  Bicoastal and London’s O Positive received the most honors with five; three honors each went to  bicoastal/London Biscuit Filmworks and RSA Films, global Caviar Content and bicoastal Chelsea.

O Positive’s director David Shane won four awards, and three each were earned by Chelsea’s Lauren Greenfield, director of #LikeAGirl and Sam Brown of Imperial Woodpecker.

On the agency front, Wieden+Kennedy’s various offices won 10 prizes, followed by Leo Burnett’s several offices with six.  Other top agency winners were 72andSunny, SS+K, Anomaly, BBDO New York, Droga5, Goodby Silverstein & Partners, Gray New York and TBWA/Chiat/Day.

Judging was begun by around 400 US and international and those selections winnowed down by experts in various fields judged across 22 categories.  The process culminated in the meeting of the Curatorial Committee the Show’s final decision-maker.

The AICP Show comes to Chicago in November at AICP’s annual screening and party at the Cultural Center.
