Soft launch successful for Go Locations’ green operation

Go Multi-Trucks 16 and 24

Since their soft launch three months ago, Go Locations Services and Go Rentals has serviced Shameless, The Playboy Club, Man of Steel, and more than 50 commercials in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri and South Carolina. They have shoots scheduled locally this winter as well as in Florida and Michigan.

For their main facility, they’re renovating a 100-year-old, 4,000 sq. ft. round barn in Ukrainian village to green building standards, using recycled, high-efficiency and biodegradable materials in walls, paving, insulation, electric and HVAC systems.

They’re also renovating parts of the adjacent 100,000 sq. ft. former book bindery, which they can expand into as needed, and renting space in the building to art directors, set dressers, prop builders, post-production houses and grip/electric companies. Go is converting a loading dock into a lobby and staging area, and another 6,000 sq. ft. of warehouse space.

“After 3 years of R&D and prototype testing we were taking delivery of our new custom equipment, vehicles, and products, and we wanted a unique location that would not only meet our current needs but also our long term needs,” says executive producer Brad Wells, who has been a production, marketing, design, construction and operational consultant to numerous corporate clients.

Equipment being used on a location shootGo president Melissa Glover was president of Glover Maintenance and VP of Springhill Maintenance. Director of operations Patrick Glover coordinated location services for over 1,000 commercials and 100 film and TV projects.

Meets all sustainability standards

Go bill provides “The Greenest Location Services” and “The Greenest Production Rentals” in the U.S., meeting or exceeding sustainability standards including those of the Producers Guild, AICP, U.S. Building Council, EPA Smartway Transport Partner, EPA Design for the Environment, FSC, US Composting, and Made in the USA.

“Every element of our operations, products and services has been designed to be as sustainable as possible,” Wells says.  Go’s Multi-Trucks are custom built from recycled materials, lit by LED lights, and run on biodiesel or ethanol. They use recycled, biodegradable, and water-based production and cleaning supplies, and offer LEED-certified recycling services.

Wells says demand for sustainable production equipment and services “is going to continue to grow exponentially, as it is already a requirement of almost every film studio or network project and is fast becoming a requirement of advertisers… Some municipalities and filming locations have already started to promote sustainable production and are considering requiring some sustainable standards for film permits.”
