Actors to table read IFP & SCN 5 winning scripts 12/1

The five screenplays and stage play winners selected by IFP Chicago and Chicago Screenwriters Network for the Screenwriters Workshop, Thursday, Dec. 1, will have their scripts read live at the Greenhouse Theatre.

The table readings, by the 2015 Steppenwolf School graduating class will be followed a talk-back session, moderated by IFP Chicago board member Keaton Wooden, whose sci-fi adventure “Landers” won the top prize at the recent American Film Market in LA.

The winning writers, local artists working in various mediums and development stages, are:

“Writer’s Block,” by Robert Carter. Writer Tim faces increasingly fantastical challenges to sitting down and drafting his play.

“Mercy,” by Erica Avery. An abused woman finds an unlikely caretaker in the country.

“Horrible Weapons of the Future,” by Michael Higgins, an adapted theater script. A timid young scientist helps develop bizarre weapons for a future war.

“Sub Dom Prof MILF,” by Wendy Jo Carlton. A web series where soft spoken professor discovers a new world of pleasure and power.

“Last of the Lovers,” by Shahari Moore.  Two teenage girls discuss their future plans and make an unlikely friend.

The reading is part of the Trellis Series, a free staged reading series that takes place Tuesday nights at 7 p.m., at the Greenhouse Theatre, 2257 N. Lincoln.

IFP Chicago’s goal in creating a public event was twofold, says IFP president Nicole Bernardi-Reis. “One was, to give writers the opportunity to workshop their script with professional actors and two, to show off the depth of talent that’s constantly developing work in this city.

“We want to connect filmmakers with the people who can champion their work from the start.”

The winning writers will spend a day work shopping their scripts with stage and screen writer Mary Ruth Clarke, the Chicago Dramatists’ resident playwright and a co-writer of “Meet the Parents.”

The cast for the staged reading are  Hannah Toriumi,  Allie Long, Cory Lipman, Edward Mawere,  Amy Malcom, Ben Burke, Miriam Reuter, Adithi Chandrashekar, Cole Doman, Autumn Jo and   Ella Raymont.

Comedian and NBC Playground winner, actor Bobby Richards (“Bobby & Iza”) will read for Robert Carter’s “Writer’s Block.”
