DVD gets special Best Buy treatment

When was the last time you heard of a DVD release ? of a documentary, no less — getting a big sendoff in a major retail store? Well, here’s a first.

The DVD of Phil Ranstrom’s “Cheat you Fair: The Story of Maxwell Street” launched in 29 Chicago area Best Buy stores this week with an in-store event at Best Buy on Roosevelt Road.

The store location couldn’t be more fitting for the doc debut, since it’s located in what was once the heart of the legendary 100-year Maxwell Street market on the Near West Side.

To commemorate the Maxwell Street of legend as the birthplace of the Chicago blues, also known as “electric urban music,” Fender Guitars, a film sponsor, will give away Fender Resonator guitars to two lucky winners at the event.
