Leviathan opens large with business

New design-driven 3D animation studio Leviathan moved into a West Loop building being rehabbed while new windows were still being hoisted into place, and worked late over the weekend to be ready for projects scheduled to start Monday.

Since that day in late May, “We’ve been eager to show the community that we’re real and we’re here,” says executive producer Chad Hutson.

The new company is a combination and partnership of Hutson’s original interactive/animation studio eatdrink and the senior talents of designer Jason White and visual effects artist Matt Daly, who brought along their impressive credentials.

Hutson says the three partners set out to bring “conceptual work” to an industry they saw as dominated by the post scene. “I wanted us to do something different outside of traditional advertising,” he says.

Executive creative director White in 2004 had launched Lift, the motion design arm of Filmworkers Club (which has since been folded into Vitamin). Daly, calling his role Leviathan’s “chief scientist”, also spent six years as Digital Kitchen’s leading 3D and effects artist, followed by a stint at Optimus.

Two other creative directors are Sam Gierasimczuk formerly with Lift, and Bradon Webb who shifted his talents from eatdrink to Leviathan. Producer is Brandy Olsen.
