There were a few additions to the Hollywood on State Oscar night viewing party at the Gene Siskel Film Center last night: I ventured into the celebration with staff writer Joey Filer, who wielded a camera and microphone to capture the action for a thrilling video.

We asked guests to name their favorite film of the year and also to predict which film would win Best Picture, because sometimes those answers are not the same.

Their responses proved that the Oscar 2018 competition was extremely tight. Dunkirk, Get Out, Lady Bird, The Shape of Water, and Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri each received big thumbs-up from a number of fans.

I also indulged in a few Brazilian-style margaritas from Fogo De Chão, one of the restaurants serving fare at the event, to properly understand the mood of the evening.

It turned out to be a little bit off the hook in a really good way.
