Scheer shares insider info at Saturday script seminar

Media goddess Laurie Scheer is back in Chicago to share her successful approach of improving storytelling, skills for selling a screenplay and developing content in today’s fast-moving transmedia marketplace an all-day workshop Saturday, Dec. 6.

Linda Frothingham’s ChicagoHollywood presents Scheer, a former network program developer, leading her hands-on “Good Storytelling Workshop,” at VentureSHOT Entrepreneur Center, 744 N. Wells, starting at 9 a.m.

“If you know your market, which is ever-changing, you can hit a home run with your pitch,” Scheer advises. “Arm yourself with lots of good information about your work, your genre, and the marketplace and embrace it as you move your work out into the world.”

Sheer, a DePaul University alum, is an a award-winning former VP/programming who developed shows for TV production companies and networks, taught at high level universities and for a year taught here at Flashpoint Academy. “I like to share and inspire and want to help others find their path,” she says.

She is also an author.  Her latest book is “The Writer’s Advantage: A Toolkit for Mastering Your Genre” (Michael Wiese Productions, 2014).

Scheer’s last seminar here was in 2010, just before she left Chicago to take a teaching position at the University of Wisconsin/Madison Continuing Studies program.

Linda Frothingham’s five year old ChicagoHollywood produces seminars with LA industry insiders and experts.  Her last event in October at Cinespace was “Getting Your Film Made,” with director Bill Duke and producer Jake Seal.  Duke will return to Chicago in early January to direct the pilot, “The Blexicans.”
