In a last-minute turn of events, TNT has decided not to produce The Deep Mad Dark, a TV pilot that was slated to begin shooting at Chicago Cinespace Studios in October.

The decision was made Friday night, a day after the show’s impending arrival was reported in ReelChicago on August 24.

On Saturday, Cinespace CEO Alex Pissios expressed optimism that the deal will happen at some point in the future.

“We’re sorry that it didn’t work out at this time, but it looks like they’ll do it next year,” he explained. “In the meantime, there’s a lot more projects brewing, phones are ringing and there will be more announcements soon.”

A source close to the project confirmed that executive producer John Wells is continuing his efforts to find a home for the pilot.

Described by Deadline.com as “an atmospheric mystery-thriller about the complexities of friendship,” The Deep Mad Dark was to be directed by Niels Arden Oplev, “the Danish filmmaker who helmed the original 2009 adaptation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” Cast members attached to the project included Game of Thrones’ Tom Wlaschiha and Silver Linings Playbook’s Jacki Weaver.
